"Well-promoted"

A new entrant in Vancouver live music listings called ShowHub reached out to me to tell me about this sentence from their homepage:

"Vancouver has an incredible jazz scene that is already well-promoted (see Rhythm Changes for that list)"

ShowHub is here.

I'm honoured to see it, first of all. But that's a contentious statement; only some percentage of local players would agree with it, though quite a few would agree that the current state is better than much of the 2010s.

I can think of a major bottleneck that will never fully be solved and always threatens to rear its head: demand, traffic, the top of funnel. Each operator in this small local scene has figured out some way to turn on the tap, to some extent, to fill their own buckets. But it's not like the bottom-up culture of the scene is robust enough to reliably make hay for everyone. The mission of Rhythm Changes continues to be making that baseline of demand as healthy as possible, by making it more fun and easier to be involved.
